Terms of Service
Last updated: October 21, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and operboulderdm for the iOS application Oper (bundle ID com.operboulderdm.xjkc). They cover the climbing projects, gym and crag information, team-up rallies, boulder feed, crew messages, gifts, and Holds described below.
The first time you open Oper, a Community Terms screen summarizes these rules. By tapping I Agree, I'm 18+ on that screen, and again by tapping Quick Login, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and that you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you tap Decline, Oper stays on that screen and you cannot use the community. If you do not agree, do not use Oper.
1. The service
Oper is a bouldering community. After you sign in, Oper provides:
- Projects. A home board of routes you are working, with grades, gym or crag names, and a way to open a route.
- Route detail. Photos, hold marks, a dashed topo line, attempt history, and links to log an attempt, open the topo tool, watch beta, post beta, or message the crew.
- Attempt log. A record of where you are on a route, from the start through the high crux, short tags for what happened on the attempt, and an optional typed note.
- Topo notes. A photo canvas where you can draw freehand, add flag-path arrows, place numbered hold marks, change ink color, undo, clear, add a note, and post the annotated image.
- Add a route. Pick a listed gym route or create a custom line (name, grade, and wall) to put on your project board. You can remove it from the board at any time.
- Sessions. A schedule of crew sessions for tonight, tomorrow, and the weekend, with join, crew chat, and detail actions, plus a list of indoor gyms and outdoor crags where you can mark yourself ready.
- Gym detail. Wall sectors, set photos, a live feed of problems on that wall, facility notes, and the rally hosted there.
- Team-up rallies. A list of sessions, a session page with crew requirements, and a join confirmation that asks you to check gear and waiver points before you confirm.
- Feed. Climbing posts, beta clips, and rally cards. You can open a beta page or start a new beta post.
- Beta page. Video, a setter note, a gift shelf, and a discussion under the clip.
- Messages. An inbox for project crews, rally threads, and direct beta notes, plus a route crew chat where you can send a text note.
- Profile. Your climber card and profile photo, intent, project list, Holds balance, gifts you have received and sent, and links to settings, the XP pyramid and grade converter, and your sessions.
- Another climber's profile. Their sends, clips, and actions to send a gift or open a beta discussion.
- Gifts. A shelf of gifts priced in Holds, including a way to top up when the balance is short.
- Settings. Visibility switches, notification preferences, a Safety group (Safety Center, Report Inappropriate Activity, Contact Support), these legal documents, Log Out, and Delete Account.
- Safety Center. Your blocked climbers, hidden posts, and the reports you have filed.
Routes, gyms, rallies, and climber posts shown in Oper are part of the project board, the sessions list, and the feed. You are responsible for anything you yourself add.
Climbing information in Oper is shared context among climbers. It is not a professional instruction, a route-setting certificate, or a promise that a hold, grade, or landing is safe.
2. Who may use Oper
You must be 18 or older to create an account, post, message a crew, join a rally, or send a gift. Oper is not offered to children.
You agree that the details you present on your profile are yours to share, and that you will not impersonate another climber.
3. Accounts
3.1 Quick Login
The login screen offers Quick Login only. Oper creates a climber ID and password for you and signs you in. The login screen does not offer Sign in with Apple, Google, or a phone-number code.
Tapping Quick Login is also how you accept these Terms. Links to the Terms and the Privacy Policy sit under that button.
3.2 Log Out
Log Out is in Settings. It ends the current session and returns you to the login screen. Your climber ID remains available so you can tap Quick Login again.
3.3 Delete Account
Delete Account is in Settings, inside Danger Zone. Oper asks you to confirm. The confirmation states that ticklists, direct beta, and grade progression linked to the account will be removed, and that this cannot be undone.
If you confirm, Oper signs you out and returns you to the login screen. If you cancel, nothing changes.
3.4 Onboarding
After the first sign-in, Oper can walk you through a short climber setup. You may skip it. Skipping does not remove these Terms.
4. Projects, routes, and topo
You may log attempts, mark a topo, and add a route to your board. Grades, set dates, and beta text are climber notes. They can be wrong. Check the wall yourself before you climb.
The topo tool draws on a photo. When you tap Save & Post, Oper saves the photo together with your marks as one image and publishes it, with your optional note, as your post in the route thread and the feed. Clearing the canvas before you post removes the marks on that screen. Your XP, level, send pyramid, and statistics are calculated from the attempts, sends, posts, rallies, and gifts you record in Oper.
5. Sessions, gyms, and rallies
The Sessions tab lists crew sessions and the gyms and crags they meet at. Place names, set notes, conditions, and session times are informational and can be out of date. Confirm access, hours, and rules with the gym or land manager before you go. Joining a session or marking yourself ready records that choice inside Oper.
A team-up rally shows a time, a place, a host, and how many spots are open. Joining asks you to confirm gear and session points. Confirming on that screen records your intent to attend inside Oper. Remind Me schedules a local reminder on your device if you allow notifications. It is not a ticket sold by the gym, and it does not reserve a pad, a hold, or a place in a competition.
You are responsible for your own transport, waiver with the facility, and decision to climb.
6. Feed, beta, and messages
The feed, beta discussion, and crew chat are community areas. Posts can include a grade, a clip description, a topo note, and a short message. Direct messages are visible to the people in that thread.
Do not post another person's private contact details, a photo they asked you not to share, or a recording made where filming is prohibited.
Oper may show a composer for a new beta post. Publishing from that composer follows these Terms, including the community standards in Section 8.
7. Holds, gifts, and Apple purchases
7.1 What Holds are
Holds are a virtual balance inside Oper. When Oper creates your climber account at first sign-in, it adds a one-time welcome grant of 100 Holds. Publishing a beta post adds 25 Holds. Every grant, purchase, and gift appears in the wallet history. You can spend Holds on gifts. Holds:
- do not expire;
- have no cash value;
- cannot be redeemed for money;
- cannot be transferred out of Oper or sold to another person;
- are not a stored-value account, a bank balance, or a security.
A gift sends Holds from your balance to support another climber's beta. The gift list shows the Holds cost before you confirm. A confirmed send cannot be reversed inside Oper.
7.2 Top-up packs
The Holds wallet lists these consumable Apple In-App Purchase tiers, from lower price to higher price:
| Tier | Holds | Price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Pebble of Gritstone | 100 | $0.99 |
| Cobble of Gritstone | 320 | $2.99 |
| Boulder of Gritstone | 550 | $4.99 |
| Outcrop of Gritstone | 1,150 | $9.99 |
| Bluff of Gritstone | 2,400 | $19.99 |
| Escarpment of Gritstone | 3,700 | $29.99 |
| Massif of Gritstone | 6,300 | $49.99 |
| Cordillera of Gritstone | 13,000 | $99.99 |
Tap a tier, then confirm the price shown on it. Apple charges your Apple ID, and the Holds are added after the App Store verifies the purchase. If a purchase needs approval (for example, Ask to Buy), the Holds are added once it is approved. If a tier is not offered by the App Store at that moment, it is shown greyed out and cannot be bought. operboulderdm does not collect your card number, card expiry, or billing address.
Holds are consumed when credited. Oper does not offer a restore option for Holds.
7.3 Refunds and Apple's terms
Purchases are also subject to Apple's terms and Apple's refund rules. To request a refund, use Apple's refund process. operboulderdm cannot charge your card directly and does not issue a separate cash refund for Holds that Apple has already billed.
If Apple reverses a charge, Oper may reverse the Holds that charge added. Holds you have already spent on a gift are not restored as cash.
7.4 Wallet history
The wallet shows a balance and a short activity list, including gifts sent and tiers purchased. That list is part of your account. It is not a bank statement.
8. Community standards
This section is the end-user license for community content in Oper. It applies to the feed, beta posts, comments under a clip, crew chat, rally notes, profile text, and gifts.
8.1 Age and zero tolerance
You must be 18 or older. Oper has zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users.
Oper checks the text of posts, comments, chat messages, attempt notes, and profile fields against a list of prohibited words and common spelling tricks before it is posted. Text that matches is not posted, and Oper tells you why.
8.2 What you may not post or send
You may not create, share, or encourage:
- harassment, bullying, or threats;
- hate toward a person or group;
- content that exploits or endangers anyone under 18;
- non-consensual intimate images;
- intimate or degrading depictions of a real person who has not agreed to appear;
- spam, scams, or impersonation;
- instructions for wrongdoing;
- content that infringes someone else's copyright or privacy.
A climbing critique of a beta is allowed. A personal attack on the climber is not.
8.3 Report, block, and hide
Every community area gives you these tools:
- Report. Long-press a feed card, a comment, a chat bubble, or a climber photo, or tap the ⋯ button on a beta page, route page, chat, or climber profile, then choose Report… and a reason. Oper creates a report ticket with an ID, copies the ID to your clipboard, and offers Send Email, which opens a pre-filled message to oper.crew.kpvr@gmail.com. The reported content is hidden from you and its author is blocked for you right away.
- Block. From the same menu, choose Block. Content from that climber is removed from your feed, comments, and messages. You can unblock in Safety Center.
- Hide. Swipe a feed card to the left and tap Hide, or choose Hide from my feed. You can show hidden posts again in Safety Center.
You can also email oper.crew.kpvr@gmail.com directly, from Settings → Report Inappropriate Activity, or from Safety Center. Include the climber name, the screen, what happened and when, and a short quote or description.
Within 24 hours of a report we are able to review, we remove the reported content and end the offending user's access to the community.
8.4 Safety Center
Safety Center, opened from Settings or your profile, lists the climbers you have blocked, how many posts you have hidden, and your report tickets with a button to email each one again.
8.5 Your responsibility
You are responsible for the text, photos, and clips you contribute. We may remove material that breaks this section even before someone emails a report. Removing content or ending access under this section does not limit other rights we have under Section 14.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- probe, scan, or attempt to break Oper or another climber's account;
- copy the product in order to build a competing service from its screens;
- use Oper to send unlawful, misleading, or abusive messages;
- interfere with Apple's purchase flow;
- misrepresent your grade, a send, or a rally roster in a way that puts another climber at risk.
We may suspend access while we review a report.
10. Safety
Bouldering and gym climbing can cause serious injury or death. Pads, grades, spotter counts, weather notes, and "spots open" lines are climber-supplied context. They are not a safety inspection.
You are responsible for warming up, choosing a fall zone, following the gym's rules, and deciding whether to climb. operboulderdm is not your host at the crag and is not a party to any session you attend after you tap Join.
11. Intellectual property
Oper, the Oper name, the screen layout, and our icons are owned by operboulderdm or its licensors. These Terms do not sell you that ownership. They give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the iOS app.
You keep ownership of content you create. You grant operboulderdm a non-exclusive license to host and display that content inside Oper so the feed, profiles, messages, topo, and rallies can function. The license ends when the content is removed, except for copies we need to keep to resolve a report, a dispute, or a legal duty.
If you believe something in Oper infringes your copyright, email oper.crew.kpvr@gmail.com with the location of the material and your contact details.
Photos of real gyms and routes may also be subject to the venue's own rules about filming.
12. Apple
These Terms are between you and operboulderdm, not between you and Apple. Apple is not responsible for Oper or for these Terms. Apple has no obligation to provide support for Oper.
If Oper fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price of the app itself, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of this section and may enforce it.
In-app purchases are billed by Apple under the Apple Media Services terms.
13. Disclaimers
Oper is provided on an "as available" basis. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular climbing goal, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that a grade is accurate, that a rally will happen, that a message will be read, or that Holds will always match a receipt you expected.
Some jurisdictions do not allow a disclaimer of certain warranties. In those places, the disclaimer applies only as far as the law allows.
14. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, operboulderdm is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost Holds you chose to gift, or personal injury arising from a climb you decided to do.
If we are liable for a claim relating to these Terms or to Oper, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid to Apple for Holds in the three months before the claim, or fifty U.S. dollars, whichever is greater. This cap does not apply where the law forbids it, including liability that cannot legally be limited.
15. Termination
You may stop using Oper at any time by logging out or by deleting the account.
We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if we receive a credible community report, or if we must do so to comply with the law. Ending access does not erase a payment Apple has already processed. Sections that by their nature should survive, including community standards, intellectual property, disclaimers, and liability limits, continue after termination.
16. Changes
We may update these Terms. We will change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using Oper after the update, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using Oper and delete the account.
